Where did you see the words “unsigned band”? All I see is “ONE of the most underrated bands of the 1990’s”. I would say you’re a bit mixed up!

I loved Tanya in Throwing Muses and in her brief stint in The Breeders. I have to say she was best in Belly. Even after 15 years it’s still one of my favorite cd’s to pull out and listen through. I love this stuff.

    Thanks for posting it, 8Boing!

This is my favorite song from Belly. But the lyrics have always confounded me. Exactly what is Tanya talking about in this song? Anybody have some answers? Help!!

  5. lsnows Says:

In the CD Sweet Ride, Tanya Donelly herself wrote, “Based (oh so loosely) on an old Chinese… folk tale about a adulterous woman being made to wear a dead dog on her back until it rotted off. Way to make the punishment fit the crime. I put into a Southern American context, which I’m marginally more familiar with…”

Is it just me, or does Gail look like a young Meryl Streep?

Great band. Saw them supporting REM in ireland in 1995. Brilliant day. Still listen to their 2 albums regularly. Oh and just for the record Thomas Gorman, I think your guitar playing is fantastic. Huge influence on me when i started, Love the hooks and clever use of effects. Just so the girls don’t get all the attention.

jeffcrapinthehead: I also have their two CDs that, and I’m listening to them again. Does anyone know why they’re not around anymore? Wikipedia doesn’t say much about them. Belly had two great albums and then they disappeared.

Such a cool song… Figures “Feed the Tree” was the big hit (these things are all relative, of course).

Saw belly in 93′ in a 1000 cap club, Radiohead opened for them…Saying it was electric in there would be putting it lightly…

  19. oldphoque Says:

Star was a great album. It was a bit dark once you got passed the hits. Tanya did do a solo which I grabbed. Not the same but was just ok. But yeah, the guitar set the mood for those dark trax.
