Can a large male dog hurt a small dog during breeding?

My cocker spaniel got out while she was in heat. I think a golden retriever bred with her. Afterward she could not use her right leg. She will not walk on it at all and seems to be in a little pain. I did not see this happen a neighbor did. Could the larger dog have hurt her leg or hip during breeding? Do you think she can have the puppies if she did get pregnant?

My dog is 13 years old, I am a very responsible dog owner. My three year old grandson let her out. I did not just let her run free to get hooked up with a large dog.

Yea, I'm pretty sure your dog got hurt by that retriever and you should take her to the vet immediately to check on that injury and if she is pregnant or not.

I've taken many animal science classes at UC Davis and I know that larger males in ANY SPECIES (even bulls & cows) can SERIOUSLY injure the female when they mount her. The other question I'm not sure of though.

What would you feel like if someone 7x your size tried to mate with you against your will? Think it might hurt a bit?

First, take your dog to the vet. If your dog is not pregnant ask the vet to spay her.

If your dog is pregnant, discuss this with your doctor. If she is pregnant with 6 retreiver sized puppies, she may die during childbirth or before.

This is a very irresponsible thing to have happened. Your dog should have been spayed before her first heat cycle. If you do not intend to spay your animal, take her to a rescue group and surrender her for adoption.

Yes he could have hurt her. She should have been spayed a long time ago. You need to take her to the vet as she might have a broken leg. While you are at the vets ask him about spaying her. Having large breed puppies could kill her.
