i would like to know when the time to bring the 2 dogs together while the female is in heat so that we can get puppies. Also is there any website or anything you can let me know about breeding dogs for the first time. thank you. Also how much would you say a pure Chiuawa would cost as a puppy. thanks for your answers.

I own 2 Chi’s, a male and female (both fixed). Breeding Chihuahuas is very tricky, you need to be very aware of all the difficulties that the female may encounter her pregnancy and delivery. The breeder we purchased our dogs from have been in the business for 9 years and they have encounter very successful litters to litters were sometimes they lose 2-3 puppies and also sometimes they have to rush the female to their vet to have an emergency "C" section done just to save her live. I would check out as many books on breeding and also use the web for information…You could also speak to your vet about this, they will be able to answer your questions.

Is your dog a show dog? Has she won championships in her breed? If not, please consider NOT breeding her. There is already a major problem with over breeding of dogs and cats and shelters are full.
Why not just love her and enjoy her as part of your family?

If you put the dogs together, they’ll figure it out. Mine did. It sometimes doesn’t happen with the first heat, but eventually……………
Small dogs are a little more difficult to breed. I had a Yorkie that was the only dog in the neighborhood full of dogs that just wandered around while all the other 17 dogs were busy with the female. Poor thing. Talk about gang rape.

There’s already too many dogs in this world. And if you think you’re going to sell the puppies and make lots of money…You’re not. AND since your dog is a tiny breed–they usually have to have c-sections (or you take the chance of the dog dieing while giving birth and having the puppies die, too!)

Well aparently if you can’t spell the name of the breed you should not be breeding the dog. I would say since you can’t spell the name of the breed you have no clue what charateristics to breed for. Aren’t their enough mutts.

The time to do reaserch is WELL BEFORE the breeding should take place.
Now, seeing as you can’t spell the name of your breed, you have a LOT of research to do.
Dogs should be OUTSTANDING examples of their breed to be bred. The world does not need more poorly bred crap puppies out there. There are enough of those already. It is not a money making venture…especially in a tiny breed. A lot can go wrong, and there is always the chance that the bit ch will die or the whole litter will die, or you will have massive vet bills due to illness or accident. Have PLENTY of money up front!!!!!!
Have the female checked by the vet for health problems also. Luxating patellas are quite common in the breed and no dog having them should be used for breeding.
Do a lot of reading,talk to other breeders,have your female evaluated by other breeders,see the vet….all of this is done FIRST!!!!!
Otherwise you end up back on here asking stupid questions about breeding and puppy care after the fact and you will get nasty answers and a lot of WRONG information.

Why are you considering breeding in the first place?
If you want to breed just so you can get one "just like her/him", forget it, it doesn’t happen.
With all breeds, there are bound to be health issues you need to screen for. Know your breed issues before considering breeding.
Just because he have a pair doesn’t mean having puppies is the right thing to do.
P.S. learn how to spell it first, then do the rest of your homework.

For every puppy YOU breed, YOU are denying a rescued animal a loving home. Did you know that? OH, you were thinking of money…. Well, it is hard to make money on a responsibly bred litter of puppies. You can always cut corners though! You really could skip the vet visits for your mother dog, don’t bother to do any health checks on either parent, and the people who buy the puppies will probably take them to the vet anyway… So, I guess you are ready to breed now huh? Just be advised- small breed moms have a tendency to have problems that could kill them while giving birth- and could require a C section. The puppies could die too. Then what?? Just leave it to RESPONSIBLE BREEDERS.
Donating an extra financial burden an a system that is already strained with enough financial prblems and facing plenty of shortages- I doubt it. The kind of places you describe are not likely to pay big money for a puppy- they are more likely to adopt a dog or pup from a shelter or rescue group (thankfully).

Why do you want to breed your dog when there are millions of dogs that are literally dieing to have a home. There are so many animals who want homes and when they can’t get a home they are murdered. How would you feel if your friend, your dog, was killed because he/she wasn’t cute enough, sweet enough, or even young enough. Please have compassion for those who will die because people like you breed animals.

It is wonderful you want to help the disabled children, but are you sure giving Chihuahua puppies to the home is something they want?
Training and raising puppies is a difficult task and the responsibility would fall on the caretakers. Having dogs there would also mean that a child with allergies could not move in or the dog would have to be given away. Plus, a chi is a small, fragile dog compared to many other breeds. As a pup, a chi can be downright delicate.
Some children with serious disabilities have difficulty controlling their gross motor and fine motor skills. An excited child (even a perfectly healthy, normal young child) could accidentally hurt or kill a Chi puppy and a disabled child (depending on the disability) may be even more likely to hurt a tiny pup. A child would be devastated to find out they have hurt a puppy.
Why not take your dogs for therapy dog training? Get the dogs certified so they can go visit the home and see the kids. The caretakers will not have the responsibility for the dogs and the kids will still benefit.
Talk to the home and see what they want. I’m sure they’ll be thankful for your generous offer of help.

When the female will "stand" for the male (allow him to mount), she is considered to be ready. Watch for swelling vulva as a sign that she is coming into heat. You will have a window of approximately a week when breeding opportunity is best. Usually somewhere around the seventh day after she starts allowing the male to mount is the best chance of success. Breeding dogs to achieve a full-blooded, pedigreed offspring is much better, in my opinion, than those who allow their cross-breed, unspayed/unneutered animals to have puppies. Go for it if its what gives you enjoyment!~

1st off you want to make sure this is your dogs 2nd heat cycle. you don’t want to breed the 1st cycle, for there can be many problems. Ok now You put them together 10-13days after she starts bleeding, you might want to put them together a couple of days before so that they can get to know eachother. She will only accept the male when she is ready, if she isn’t ready then she won’t. Are you breeding a a chihuahua? If you are I just want to tell you from my experiance and my aunt breeds chis, We have never had any luck getting puppies from the 1st breeding, they usually don’t have pups till the 2nd time they are bred. You have to make sure the male is smaller then the female, or the pups will be to big for the female to pass and she and pups can die or you’ll have to have a c-section done.
